Week 1 of th 17 day diet...

Well, my husband and I want to jump start our weight loss so we are trying the "17 Day Diet." It's kind of restrictive the first cycle, but eases up on the next 3. You must have a large salad with each dinner. We will see how I do with this because if I eat a big salad, I usually don't eat anything else at that meal. I will let you know how we like it...???

Here are our dinners for the next week.

Sunday = Macaroni and Cheese, broccoli and cauliflower (not on the diet) My last gasp at getting in pasta for a while...LOL.
Monday = Grilled Chicken, yellow squash and salad
Tuesday = Grilled Tequila Lime shrimp, spinach and salad
Wednesday = Roasted turkey breast, salad and green beans
Thursday = BBQ steak, acorn squash and salad
Friday = Burgers (Beef or turkey), salad and peas
Saturday = Halibut, salad, broccoli

While I don't eat a great variety of vegetables, I will do my best to improve. I don't eat cooked carrots or celery, but do enjoy them raw. Also, I consider corn a grain...not a vegetable. I will have to figure out some more. I always have cucumbers and tomatoes on my salad. Oh...and I am allergic to onions, mushrooms and can't stand the taste of peppers or chilis. They invoke gag reflex in me...OK...TMI...LOL. So...we will see how this goes. Anxious to start it tomorrow.

Week 1

Well, best laid plans...are to be broken I guess. Life likes to throw us curves and we usually can't see around the corner. I did cook last week, just not the whole menu and not on the right days...LOL.
Here is last week's menu...
New Years Day 1-1-11
Crock pot scalloped potatoes, peas, salad and Brats cooked on the grill.

Did not care for the potatoes...they were still hard and didn't taste cooked. Probably will not make again.
1-2-11
DH and I not feeling up to par, we just ate left overs from New years Eve and New Years day.
1-3-11
Grilled Chicken, baked potatoes and salad

Easy and Outstanding
1-4-11
Salisbury steak, Rice, salad and green beans

This is my family recipe and it was wonderful!
1-5-11
Spinach Cheese Pasta with chicken

This was outstanding. I would add sun-dried tomatoes to it next time. Great dinner and all in one pan! Will definitely make again.
Adding it into my monthy rotation...
1-6-11
Fish and chips from our favorite restaurant (NOT fast food!) Could really be on Diner, Drive-ins and Dives...LOL. It's called Skuttlebutts and it just a little hole in the wall...but wonderful. Let's just say "Outstanding!"
1-7-11
Sherry Apple Pork Chops, Rice and corn.

Very good. I did not use sherry, I used apple juice instead. Used more than the recipe called for , but that's because I used my electric skillet instead of my "non-working" oven! Will make again!
1-8-11

Big salad. (There was a devastating shooting in Tucson AZ and we were so glued to the TV I didn't cook. For those that don't know, we do live in Arizona. It was heart breaking for all of us.)
1-9-11

Slow Cooker Chicken dinner It had chicken, potatoes and carrots in it. Very good, very filling. Will make again!

Next weeks menu is shaping up like this...just hope we are not thrown too many curves...LOL.

Monday = Grilled Brats with garlic buttered red potatoes
Tuesday = Chili and Honey corn bread
Wednesday = Roasted Turkey
Thursday = Hot turkey sandwiches
Friday = Grilled sirloin steaks, baked potatoes
Saturday = Spinach and Sun-Dried Tomato Pasta
Sunday = Crockpot meal

Enjoy your week. I'll be back to report on week 2 soon.

Happy New Year 2011

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!

2010 has been a terrible year for me and my family. My sweet mother and my brother-in-law passed in 2010 . I hope that 2011 will be a better year and that our family can go ONE year without losing anyone.

I have my menu's planned for the first week. I'll take pictures as I go, but to be truthful...I have no idea how to post them here. I will do my best to learn.

One thing on my list is done. To make a menu for the week and stick to it. We have done all the shopping and I know this is doable. I have assigned subjects to the days of the week.

Like...

Monday = Beef

Tuesday = Pork

Wednesday = Pasta

Thursday = Chicken/Turkey

Friday = Fish/soup/chili

Saturday = Leftovers/refrigerator clean-up/order out

Sunday = Crockpot meal

If you would like to see the whole menu...please go to...

I have everything posted there.

I have talked to my husband and he and I agree that Fast Food should not be anywhere near our diets. Not that we are "dieting"...just that we feel that it is not good for us and we have so many other wonderful options. So...No FF for us, for at least 365 days, UNLESS...we are traveling and there are no other viable opitons is the rule for 2011. We can't really see this happening as we watch DDD from the food network. We will always look for a drive-in, diner or dive before we have fast food.

FAST FOOD DOES NOT DO A BODY GOOD!!

Have a wonderful start to a new year. Make something from scratch as it is better for everyone. Take the time to make a menu and cook for only 1 or 2 days a week. Your children will thank you.
